Loon Lake

Approaching from the west through a heavily wooded area with blooming dogwoods and other native Michigan plants, the house appears through the trees, integrated into a slope that cascades down to Loon Lake.

Extensive roofs overhangs give the house a broad linear presence, and function as shelter for the porch decks.
The design and layout have some unique Japanese style features, starting with the gate welcoming guests to the ascending stairs up to the entrance.

The studio loft above the living room is private, but open enough to share the same energy and airflow as the rest of the house.

The dynamic window placement creates a transparency which makes the house blend with the surrounding forest.
The cedar siding, wrap around decks, and scenic seating area are some of the other areas of this house which make it a natural and comfortable dwelling.

Designed for a single occupant, the house is an interconnected interior/exterior experience with all wood surfaces,  imported slate floors, passive solar, and radiant heat.
