Roundstone Design has designed and built over 700 sustainable and environmentally conscious primary and secondary schools for Gonoshahajjo Sangstha, an NGO which facilitates education programs for underpriviledged children in the small farming villages of Bangladesh. This project also included cost efficient, sustainable training centers, and 17 local community centers.
The structures were handbuilt in rural farmland villages by local workers from indigenous materials. Multiple design variations were inspired by traditional dwellings in the surrounding area, and decorative folk art patterns. The use of native brick, bamboo, and reinforced concrete make the structures fit in to the primitive villages, with a feeling of permanance. |

Each structure is completely sustainable, equipped with a well, and compost recycling which provides fertilizer for the local farms. They are naturally ventilated with decorative metal shutters and screens, and bricks layed in a pattern to facilitate air flow. |

Roof planes feature gardens and pools to create natural solar shading. Porches, sunshades, and verandas offer relief from the oppressive heat. |
